The extensive list of great topics for dissertation on several subjects

If you are writing your dissertation you might be lucky enough to be able to write on any subject. That being said when you can choose from anything it makes it a bit harder to narrow down the list. But consider the list below of possible topics and see if anything strikes your fancy:

• Is it true that censorship actually increases curiosity?
• Do religious constraints increase curiosity in and use of prostitutes/porn/drugs/alcohol?
• Should the federal government establish a national database to track controlled substances like prescription medications?
• Should only certain medical records be confidential? Should access to medical records be expanded?
• Should the public have a right to know about the private life of a public figure? What effects does this have on voting?

Once you have selected your topic how do you go about writing the paper? That is easy:

The Outline:

Writing the outline is a critical step in this process. Your final paper will only be as good as your outline. So how do you start?

1. You start by writing your introduction at the top of the page. This is an expansion of your thesis statement in one paragraph. Review this part carefully to make sure that the notes you have match the material you have researched.
2. Beneath the introduction you want to include the main heading. You should also write in subheadings under which you write your main points.
3. Use note cards from your research and arrange them however you think is best to illustrate your points. Introduction:

The introduction should be definite and concise. It is not a place for you to write opinions so avoid starting the introduction paragraph with “I think” or “In my opinion”. These statements will reduce your credibility as a researcher and as a writer. You want to keep your opinions out of this section and include only the main points your paper will address.

For example: If you are writing about economic factors that drove the Second World War you want to start with a factual sentence such as:

Introduction: Germany’s involvement in the Second World War was predicated by the destabilization of Germany’s economic power by the Allies.

You then want to include main headings beneath it. The purpose of the main headings is to answer each question you posed in the argument. Review your argument and find each resonant point. In the example above you might include subheadings for background and history as well as post-war economy for Germany.
